Without a doubt, one of the biggest draws for the Call of Duty series is its multiplayer mode, and the best way to keep it interesting is by adding in new and compelling maps, and it seems some new details have slipped out for some upcoming maps for the latest CoD title, Ghosts.
It seems that after the game's first Double XP Weekend came to a close yesterday, an incorrect playlist of unreleased map names appeared to Ghosts' PC players. The list was first spotted by a forum member over at Denkirson, who listed the map names: Domination, Cranked, Dome, LUA_MENU_GAZA, Red River, Boneyard, and Swamp.
MP1st reports that the playlist was pulled shortly thereafter, but not before screens were grabbed proving the list's existence.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players may remember the game's Dome map, which was listed along with the other map names. Since the Call of Duty series has revisited maps from previous games, this Dome is thought to be the same map from MW3.
It was a smaller map with limited cover spots, and focused on close quarters combat. Set in an abandoned NATO military outpose somewhere in the Middle East, it featured the Delta Force and Spetsnaz factions, and featured as a map for the game's multiplayer, survival, and chaos modes. How the map will change, if at all, remains to be seen.
Call of Duty: Ghosts takes place in a near future following an attack from space that leaves Los Angeles virtually wiped out, and the United States' infrastructure devastated. Years later, the country is invaded by a new superpower, a conglomerate of South American nations calling itself the "Federation." What's left of America's special forces have come together to form the titular "Ghosts," and it's up to them to wage guerrilla warfare against the Federation in order to protect what remains of the United States, and drive the Federation out.
Despite, well...not the best reviews ever for a Call of Duty game, Ghosts was a hit right out of the gate, grabbing a billion dollars in sales in its first day of release.
Beyond the campaign, the game's multiplayer mode, which promises a slew of different customization options for weapons, character camos, and more. Over 30 new weapons are included alongside old favorites like the UMP45 and the M4A1.
Players are able to peek around cover while still being able to fire, automatically mantle objects, and customize their character. Players are also able to activate environmental hazards, rather than the hazards automatically activating without player interference. It will also allow players to do some hidden sub-missions which will result in new twists in the campaign storyline.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is out now for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and the Wii U. It will be available as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when the consoles release later this month.
