‘Blackberry DTEK70’ Release Date, News & Update: Blackberry Resurrects Full-QWERTY Keyboard With Cheaper, Blackberry PRIV-Like Smartphone

The final piece of the Blackberry DTEK Trio will be coming up early in 2017 after an image of the highly anticipated device leaked on Chinese social media network Weibo. Codename Mercury, Blackberry DTEK70 is the last piece of the trio that completes Blackberry DTEK50 and Blackberry DTEK60 released early this year.

According to The Inquirer, on the outside, Blackberry DTEK70 is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the keyboard's space bar. It will sport a 4.5" HD display, an 8MP front camera sensor, a huge 18MP rear camera sensor, and a USB-C connectivity.

On the inside, Blackberry DTEK70 will be powered by Qualcoom Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB RAM, 3GB built-in storage. While it will surely run on Android OS, it is not clear whether it will host to the newest Android Nougat. It will also be equipped with a 3,400mAh battery.

But compared to its predecessors, Blackberry DTEK70 leaked specs and features are mostly a downgrade and not an upgrade. On physical feature, Blackberry DTEK70 is more of a Blackberry PRIV in style. For example, DTEK60 and DTEK50 series have 5.5" and 5.2" Quad HD Display respectively, quite bigger than the 4.5" of Mercury. PRIV has 5.4" display. The smaller screen size is the clear result of the full QWERTY keyboard, a sumptuous feature for die-hard Blackberry fans.

Moreover, Blackberry DTEK60, the second and the latest release of the Blackberry Trio in the market, has 21MP rear camera - way above than the Blackberry DTEK70's 18MP sensor. PRIV has 18 megapixel auto-focus camera.

The company has not yet announced the price for the upcoming Blackberry DTEK70 device, In April, Blackberry hinted that it would launch a phone cheaper than Blackberry PRIV's $700 price tag, but within $400 range. This will be the final in-house made smartphone by Blackberry after it announced to stop designing its own phone in favor of outsourcing partners.
