With more and more new and upcoming games looking ahead to a second management interface from user smartphones, it’s no big surprise that more and more titles are easily becoming dependent on related companion apps. Now, it seems like the latest to join the bandwagon is Infinity Ward’s newest release, Call of Duty: Ghosts, which has now received a companion app for users on iOS.
The new app, developed by Activision, aims at providing a new experience for both mobile and tablets and has been designed to work hand-in-hand with the game. Moreover, the new app also provides several personalized features during and beyond play sessions.
The companion app enables Clan Wars for the game where players can battle for territory against multiple clans with locations on the Clan Wars map being tied directly to Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer game modes.
Players here can earn exclusive in-game bonuses by dominating their opponents, and also includes additional soldier customization options and bonus multiplayer XP. It is to be noted that each Clan War takes place over a certain period of time which will give players multiple opportunities for their clan to gain the upper hand.
As expected, the app also enhances the game’s multiplayer mode with second screen functionality where players can sync their device in real-time to Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer game modes. Also, there is the option to edit the player’s squad pre-match where players can swap loadouts between spawns and later view post-match results.
However, the company has also confirmed that the aforementioned second screen functionality is only available for iOS 6.0 and higher on iPad with support for iOS 6.0 and higher on iPhone/iPod touch dropping soon. As expected, a Wi-Fi connection will be required to utilize the app’s Second Screen features.
Players can also join, create, and manage their clans from the app itself with options to communicate with clan members via the app’s Clan Chat feature that will help coordinate playtimes and gameplay strategies. There is also a new Clan Emblem Editor, so that clan leaders can create and customize their emblem.
Lastly, the app will also help players stay up to date with all the latest Call of Duty news and events, via a tab on the player’s career stats. Players can also use the app’s Rally Up feature to notify friends that they’re ready to play. The companion app is now available for download on iTunes.
Call of Duty: Ghosts arrived on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U on Nov. 5.
