'Doom' Release Date, News & Update: Bethesda Releases Update 5, Featuring New Multiplayer Mode, Bot Support & Echelon 11

Fans of the first-person shooter video game "Doom" would be glad to know that Update 5 is finally available, and it features new multiplayer mode, bot support, and Echelon 11. The free update brings a slew of exciting new features to the game that was released back in May.

The news of the new free update arrives via Gamespot, which reports that "Doom"'s Update 5 features new multiplayer mode, bot support, and Echelon 11. Gamers who download Update 5 will now be able to play against AI-controlled enemies. Players must note however, that the bot support is only currently available in "Deathmatch" and "Team Deathmatch."

Update 5 for "Doom" also features a new multiplayer mode called "Infernal Run," in which two teams battle each other in a game resembling football. The two teams must keep the ball to themselves and then must throw it into the enemy's goal.

Aside from the new multiplayer mode, Update 5 for "Doom" also features Echelon 11, meaning the level cap has been upgraded in the update. Gamers can now reach Echelon 11 and get a "Doom" marine armor as a reward. This awesome new marine armor is also available in SnapMap, which also features the new Lazarus Lab modules.

According to Bethesda, "Doom" players will also be able to earn double XP beginning now until December 12 at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET. But that's not the only thing to look forward to, as on December 15, id Software will be releasing the third and final "Doom" DLC pack. This upcoming DLC will feature three new maps and a Spectre Pinky demon, among other awesome new features.
