‘The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 Finale Spoilers: Ian Somerhalder Talks Nina Dobrev & Elena's Return

Ian Somerhalder recently responded to speculations that Nina Dobrev could cameo in the season finale of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. The actor also expressed his interest to see Elena return in the instalment.

Speculations are rife that Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena and Katherine, will return for a cameo appearance. It is unclear if she comes back as Elena or as Katherine. However, Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon, said he would rather see Elena return to give "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 a proper ending.

In an interview with Variety, Somerhalder was asked what he wants to see happen before the show bids goodbye. He was asked what he thinks would be the best "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale. If he had his way, Somerhalder wants all the vampires and the witches to disappear. He wants Mystic Falls back to what it was, before the Salvatore brothers and the witches arrived.

Somerhalder said he wants Damon and Stefan to leave Mystic Falls. Of course, this means he also wants Elena back.

"Let Elena wake up and have these boys gone and never know any of this happened. A phenomenal, go humanity thing would be where these creatures don't win," Somerhalder said.

Speaking of Elena, Ian Somerhalder also addressed those speculations that Nina Dobrev will return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Fans believe that she will appear in the season finale, much like how she made a cameo for Season 7.

However, Somerhalder admitted that he does not know anything about where the series is heading. The writers have been mum on plot details. He did, however, teased her return when he said that he wants the happy ending in the series to be "pro human." This could mean that Nina Dobrev as Elena could appear in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale.
