DriveClub Release Date: Delay Leads to Improvement in Graphics, Reflections, and AI

DriveClub Release Delay is a Good Thing, leads to graphical improvements and more

Evolution Studios' DriveClub may have been delayed until the following year, but that's not necesarrily a bad thing. Quite the opposite, as it seems like the delay has actually done the game a world of good. According to the developer, the delay for the title’s release has resulted in addition of more improvements related to in-game graphics, reflections and AI.

The developing team recently highlighted a number of improvements done to the game via its official Twitter and Facebook page. It was here that it was revealed that taking advantage of the game’s delay in release, the team has improved on the existing lighting, reflections and the general body of the cars available.

The official tweets and the updates for the same are below:

- “YES!! Most notably from the video just shared you will see an improvement for the ambient lighting inside the car.”
- “...and big improvements to the sun, the clouds and the sky overall. When we have that we will show you a full race.”
- “We’re about to start optimizing the reflections in the mirrors too.”
- “…also the glass windscreen doesn’t sit perfectly with the bodywork of the car. We’ve already fixed that since recording.”
- “As well as the lighting, the audio and the AI improvements, we’re about to start improving the reflections in the mirrors too.”

DriveClub’s delay in release until next year was revealed vby President of Worldwide Studios for SCE, Shuhei Yoshida, to the Official PlayStation Blog earlier this month.

“SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. DRIVECLUB will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations,” Yoshida wrote at that time.

He added that time that the decision to delay the title’s release “also affects PlayStation Plus members‘ Instant Game Collection for launch. To be clear, DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition will still be part of the Instant Game Collection when it is released.”

However, as an explanation for this delay, Yoshida assured fans that the reason for this was to ensure that when the game eventually launches, it will be ready to realize the next gen racing vision the company intends to achieve with it.
