Talk about one thing, end up revealing a tasty tidbit about something else. That was the case over at the PlayStation Blog recently. While fielding a question about cross chat during a Q&A about Killzone: Shadow Fall, Sid Shuman, Manager of Social Media at Sony Computer Entertainment, confirmed that playing a different game won't be an issue if you want to keep talkin' with your buddies.
HITTERSAURUS-REX (a dinoriffic handle by the way) asked Shuman, "How many people can I have in My PSN/PS4 Party Chat Room at one time.. Either us all playing Killzone Shadow Fall or playing another title, watching a video, listening to music or just hanging out in our party chat room while we are all online? What Is the Max Number Allowed on PSN?"
To which Shuman responded, "Party Voice Chat will support up to 8 players on PS4, like PS Vita."
Cross-chat was a feature highly desired by a great many PlayStation 3 owners, but it never came to fruition. I'm sure they'll be delighted to hear that this won't be the case for Sony's next-gen PlayStation 4. For anyone not delighted, get ready to hit the "mute" button.
It's thought that Sony might have the cross-chat feature go cross-platform between the Vita and the PS4, but nothing has been confirmed at the moment. In the mean time, the only cross-anything in the works is that the Vita can be used as a controller on certain PlayStation 4 titles, but it's up to each game's developer to determine that.
Under the hood, the PS4 boasts Supercharged PC architecture, X86 CPU, Enhanced PC GPU, and 8GB Unified Memory. It will support the same PlayStation Plus service as the Vita and PlayStation 3. However, a Plus subscription will be required for online multiplayer games, but not for additional media services like Netflix. Sony has also updated the Dual Shock controllers with improved shoulder triggers, and bundles the console with a headset.
The PlayStation 4 is set to release on November 15 in North America and on November 29 in Europe. Day one games available for the system include Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone Shadow Fall,Madden NFL 25, Minecraft, NBA 2K14, Need for Speed: Rivals, and more. It will retail for $399.
