‘Dracula Untold’ Latest News & Update: Universal Excludes ‘Dracula Untold,’ Dashes Hope Of Luke Evans Reprising Role! More Details Revealed

Dracula just got kicked out of the Universal Picture’s monster universe. Actor Luke Evans, who portrayed the count in “Dracula Untold,” also lost his chance to reprise the iconic character.

Alex Kurtma, director of “The Mummy” which just released its first trailer, said at a press event for the Tom Cruise-starrer that “Dracula Untold” is not included in the shared monster universe that Universal is developing. He explained that to build the monster universe, great individual movies must be developed first, Movieweb reports.

Talk About Interaction Of Movie Monsters

Prior to Alex Kurtma’s statement, reports said that Luke Evans disclosed that there has been talk about the monster universe with the parties involved figuring out the interaction of the monsters. Luke Evans pointed out that if Iron Man and Thor can share a scene with Captain America, Dracula from “Dracula Untold” and the Mummy could be in one movie too.

But Alex Kurtma said the moviegoers must fall in love first with these monster movies and the characters initially. Once these two elements are developed, the next move is come up with an organic story reason to bring together these characters such as the count from “Dracula Untold” and the Mummy.

Other Possible Monsters

However, based on the trailer of “The Mummy,” Dr. Jekyll (Russel Crowe) seems to be connected to the upcoming monster universe of Universal. Although Alex Kurtma’s explanation did not rule out “Dracula Untold” totally, chances of Luke Evans playing the count again appears dim. Other monster movies that Universal would possibly make would feature The Invisible Man (Johnny Depp) and Frankenstein (Javier Bardem), according to rumors.

One possible reason why Alex Kurtma appears cold to the idea of including “Dracula Untold” in the Universal monster world is that the film was not a mega blockbuster when it was shown in 2014. It earned $217 million and was produced at a cost of $70 million, according to MoviepIlot.
