With the buzz on '"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" at an all-time high, another "Creature Featurette" was released by LucasFilm through their Star Wars channel in YouTube.
Creature Effects Supervisor for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", Neal Scanlan offer a quick peek in to the creation, development and shooting of the different otherworldly beings of the Star Wars universe. Scanlan also emphasized that his "role" was to "develop techniques and get better at it not only in the way that we make things but hopefully more successfully, creatively in situations that it feels as if Star Wars could actually be."
Since "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the franchise has actively sought out more opportunities to use more practical effects in the form of prosthetics and puppetry in place of computer generated graphics, most specifically in the creature department. This is to get the right look and feel that emanated from "Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi," which all used more practical effects on set.
"Rogue One; A Star Wars Story" is a film independent of the Star Wars Saga but is deeply rooted in Star Wars canon. It set in a time before the events of "Episode 4: A New Hope" and recalls the successful attempt of a ragtag team from the Rebel Alliance in stealing the Empire's plans of creating the Death Star, the galaxy's most powerful weapon. Although we know that the attempt to steal the plans was successful.
"Rogue One; A Star Wars Story" stars Felicity Jones in the lead role of Jyn Erso along with Forrest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk and Diego Luna. The movie is directed by Gareth Edwards, who previously directed "Godzilla" and "Monsters." Based on a story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta, the screenplay was written by Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass and Cinderella). The film is set to be released worldwide on Dec. 16, 2016.
