Buzz is strong that LucasFilm would begin production of “Star Wars: Episode 9” in April 2017. It would be filmed likely at the Pinewood Studios in London where three previous Star Wars movies were also shot.
Neither Disney nor LucasFilm has confirmed a release date for “Star Wars: Episode 9,” although rumors said it would be on May 23, 2019. Movieweb reports. However, it did not discount the possibility that the release date would be moved to December, the scheduled release dates for three forthcoming franchises.
Release Dates
On Dec. 16, 2016, it would be “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and two days later, it would be “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” “Star Wars: Episode 8” is scheduled for release on Dec. 15, 2017 which makes the speculated May 23, 2019 release date for “Star Wars: Episode 9” look like the odd man. However, since LucasFilm has set the release date of “Hans Solo: A Star Wars Story” which is a second spin-off for the franchise, on May 25, 2018, the studio could likely retain the May 23, 2019 schedule since May 25, 2018 marks 41 years since the first Star Wars movie came out.
65mm Film, Not 35mm
According to Gamesradar, Colin Trevorrow, director of “Jurassic World,” would direct and write “Star Wars: Episode 9.” He would use 65mm film to shoot the movie, veering away from the 35mm format he used for “The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars 7.” The production of “Star Wars: Episode 8,” directed by Rian Johnson, finished in July.
Trevorrow said that “Star Wars: Episode 9” will answer all the theories of followers of the movie about Rey (Daisy Ridley) and her parents. Actor Mark Hamill said in August that he would be back as Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars: Episode 9.” After “Star Wars: Episode 8” ended production, he immediately shaved his beard.
