Looks like Target doesn't have a problem disappointing anyone who pre-ordered a Watch Dogs PS4 bundle, or any other bundle that came with a game that's since been delayed.
No one ever enjoys hearing that an anticipated game has been delayed, but what makes it more difficult is when the game was part of a console bundle for a new console. News of Ubisoft and Sony's decision to delay Watch Dogs and Drive Club respectively have been dealt with differently by certain retailers. GameStop and Amazon are offering customers the option to substitute a different game for their bundles, but Target? Well, they're canceling orders alltogether.
Kotaku has received letters from readers claiming they received a letter from Target concerning their PlayStation 4 pre-order bundles after Driveclub's delay was announced. The letter reads:
"Thank you for your interest in video game consoles from Target. Unfortunately, some upcoming games have been delayed. As a result, we are canceling the video game console and bundled item(s) from your order #. We are truly sorry for this unforseen development, and we recognize that it is both an inconvenicne and a disappointment. We will have video game consoles available for preorder on Friday, October 25. These will be offered on a first come, first served basis."
So, in essence, the Target modus operandi seems to be, for customers who chose their business over GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, and God knows who else, if a company delays a game that was part of a bundle, you flip the customer the bird, have them go back to the end of the line, and have them re-order at another time, despite that they took the initiative to do so in the first place, ahead of everyone else.
Nice work Target.
A representative from the retailer has yet to explain the decision or provide context.
Under the hood, the PS4 boasts Supercharged PC architecture, X86 CPU, Enhanced PC GPU, and 8GB Unified Memory. It will support the same PlayStation Plus service as the Vita and PlayStation 3. However, a Plus subscription will be required for online multiplayer games, but not for additional media services like Netflix. Sony has also updated the Dual Shock controllers with a touch screen and improved shoulder triggers, and bundles the console with a headset.
Demo kiosks have already started making their way to various retailers, with more and more rolling out the closer we get to the console's launch date.
The PlayStation 4 is set to release on November 15 in North America and on November 29 in Europe. Day one games available for the system include Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone Shadow Fall, Madden NFL 25, Minecraft, NBA 2K14, Need for Speed: Rivals, and more. It will retail for $399.
