The next flagship smartphone of LG is believed to be called the LG G6. There are rumors that the LG G6 will be waterproof and feature wireless charging technology.
More Advanced Waterproofing in the LG G6
Phone Arena revealed that an LG executive stated that there is currently a high demand for waterproof smartphones in Japan because of the rainy and humid weather. The LG G6 is rumored to provide just that with a non-removable battery and a more advanced and expensive waterproofing approach.
The LG G6 is said to use adhesive instead of the cheaper 3M tape used by Samsung to make their devices waterproof. Hitachi, 3M and Henkel are said to be competing to produce the adhesives that the LG G6 will need.
GSM Arena wrote that the new waterproof technology in the LG G6 will mean that the company will finally put an end to removable batteries, in exchange for a sealed and seamless design. LG is known to have introduced modularity to the mainstream and it is a significant change for them to drop the feature to compete with other flagship models.
The LG G5 provided good protection against drops, shocks and water, so the LG G6 is expected to be even more resistant. LG previously launched a V34 water-resistant handset in Japan, so the new LG G6 may use the same technology or upgrade the existing feature.
Wireless Charging and LG Pay Support
There are also talks that the LG G6 will showcase wireless charging and LG Pay support. LG Pay is the brand's mobile payment service, which will be similar to Samsung Pay. It will use both Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and NFC to allow a charge card to make payments.
MST allows LG Pay to be used at more than 90% of global retail locations, including outlets that do not have NFC. More updates and details on the LG G6 are expected at MWC in February 2016.
The current LG G5 features a 5.3-inch LCD display, a Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, a 16-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front shooter, and a removable 2800mAh Li-Ion battery. The LG G6 is expected to feature more powerful specifications when it launches.
