Call of Duty: Ghosts’ dynamic engine determines game output, not console generation

With the next generation of gaming almost upon us, and a host of new titles from the big names in the industry already released, it seems like everyone is looking ahead to check out these same titles when combined with the power of the likes of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. And while the expectations are high, one of the big names in the industry has now stated that the output of a title will be eventually determined by the game’s internal engine, and not by the new consoles’ horsepower.

Raven Software senior producer Derek Racca recently talked about the built-in power of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ heavily modified engine with TechRadar, and how its performance will not only be limited with the power of next generation consoles. Raven Software is developing Ghosts' multiplayer mode.

"Basically, our engine will scale to provide the best look for each platform," Racca explained. "There's no current-gen engine or next-gen engine, it's just 'the engine’ and basically we create something, an asset that's just 'shoot-for-the-moon crazy high-res', and then the engine determines the best way to show that on each generation."

The bottom line here is that since the built-in engine will be doing most of the work in determining the visual output from related high-resolution files, the end result will be a massive boost to all those still willing to stick to the PS3 or Xbox 360 with improvement in performance for those versions of the game.

It was also revealed that the company was actually made to rework on the game engine mostly due to the arrival of next gen which facilitated the developing team to add even more improvements.

"Sure, we would have done stuff to improve [the game], but I don't know if we would have gone this route because of the console transition," he said. "We may have, but we are always trying to improve how the game looks."

The last time Call of Duty: Ghosts was in news, it was in September when it was revealed that the game’s multiplayer mode is set to arrive with 20,000 combinations of customizations.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is scheduled for a Nov. 5 launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC, with the game also heading over to next generation consoles later this year.
