There is little doubt that "Stranger Things" was inspired by several movies from the '80s, so it would make sense that the second season will feature more references to the classic films. The Duffer Brothers Admit 'Stranger Things' Inspired By 'Akira' And 'Elfen Lied'
It isn't hard to see that "Akira" was one of the major inspirations in the first season of "Stranger Things." Matt and Ross Duffer have already confirmed that Eleven's situation was a reference to the children who were experimented on in the 1988 classic. In addition to that, the series also paid homage to the more violent anime "Elfen Lied". What should fans expect in "Stranger Things" Season 2?
"There were a lot of things in ['Elfen Lied'] that I really liked and that made their way into the show," Matt Duffer told The Daily Beast. The "Stranger Things" co-creator added that the references were mainly connected to Eleven. But does this mean that "Stranger Things" Season 2 could be getting some violent inpirations from "Akira"?
Eleven's Return Spells Trouble For Hawkins In 'Stranger Things' Season 2?
Remember how Eleven's arrival in the first season coincided with Will Byers' disappearance? Although El managed to get rid of the Demogorgon, some believe that her return could set off a chain of horrific events in "Stranger Things" Season 2. Will Eleven destroy Hawkins in a similar fashion that the titular psychic ruined Tokyo in "Akira"?
Eleven undoubtedly means well, especially now that she has formed a bond with Mike, Lucas and Dustin. However, there are also speculations that El's memories might be erased after her struggle with the Demogorgon and she might bring disaster to Hawkins in "Stranger Things" Season 2.
Netflix has not yet announced the "Stranger Things" Season 2 air date. The second season of the series is expected to premiere by June 2017.
