Meanwhile, online resellers have been reportedly selling theirs for a much higher price. The retro console was just officially released a week ago into the market, but it appears the nostalgic shoppers have already acquired every available stock.
Being the hottest gaming commodity these holiday season makes it difficult for shoppers to find an available NES Classic Edition. CNBC (via iDigitalTimes) reports that even online retailers like Amazon are also affected by the shortage. It appears Nintendo might have underestimated the potential demand for their retro gaming system.
According to CNBC, Toys R Us will have restocks of the NES Classic Edition to meet the demand during their \"Great Big Christmas Sale.\" They also expect the product to sell very quickly. Nintendo has also reportedly promised it would have restocks before the holidays roll in. Interested buyers in New York City area can also check the Nintendo NY store. Rumors indicate that the retail store continually restocks the item.
Thrilllist also claims that Urban Outfitters, a clothing retailer will be offering the NES Classic Edition through its online store on Dec. 6,2016. The website says a company spokesperson confirmed the gaming system will only "be available online." It is speculated that stocks will also be very limited. The company did not indicate what time it would begin offering the device, but interested buyers are advised to check their webpage in case it refreshes by midnight.
The NES Classic Edition was officially released on Nov. 10, 2016. The console allows users to play retro games released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) between 1984 and 1993. The mini-console is powered by a micro-USB port and uses an HDMI cable to connect to a compatible TV.
