"Lucifer" Season 2 will tackle Lucifer's origin or his background story. Series creator Ildy Modrovich confirmed flashback scenes will show the devil arriving in Los Angeles.
Showrunner Modrovich said that "Lucifer" Season 2 will have a standalone episode dedicated to Lucifer Morningstar. Fans will finally learn how, the devil ended up in Sin City in the first place. Modrovich said this standalone episode will be a flashback story to when Lucifer first arrived in Los Angeles.
"We have four episodes at the very end ['Lucifer' Season 2] that are going to be completely standalone, and we plan to make one of them a flashback to Lucifer first arriving," Ildy Modrovich told TV Line.
Modrovich did not say which episode in the second half of "Lucifer" Season 2 this flashback scene will happen. However, given that the series has been given a full season (22 episodes), it is likely fans will see Lucifer's first arrival in Los Angeles in Episode 19 or 20.
Followers of the Fox series so far have not seen Lucifer's first arrival in Los Angeles. The series immediately opened with the former ruler of Hell already owning Lux. Likewise, viewers have yet to understand why Lucifer decided to abandon his post in Hell and join the human race.
So far, fans only know a few details about Lucifer's reason for being in Hell. Charlotte told him in "Lucifer" Season 2 Episode 2, "Liar, Liar, Slutty Dress on Fire," that she asked his father to send him to Hell. His father was supposedly intent on destroying him, but Charlotte begged that he let Lucifer live. In return, Lucifer lived in Hell.
Likewise, at least fans by now know why Lucifer chose Lux to be his home on Earth. He revealed his reasons to Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) in "Lucifer" Season 2 Episode 9, "Homewrecker." He said he chose Lux, because of its history of sin. Fortunately, this history saved the club from demolition. The Los Angeles County named Lux as a heritage site, so it becomes untouched.

Fans will eventually learn a few more detais about Lucifer's background story when the show returns on Jan. 16, 2017. As what Modrovich said, viewers should stay tune for that standalone episode in "Lucifer" Season 2, that will reveal Lucifer's first arrival in Los Angeles.
