Following the release of a new trailer for "The Last of Us: Part 2," more details about the sequel's story have been revealed. Ellie is now a grown up and she's more than ready to talk about hate.
According to IGN, Naughty Dog director and writer Neil Druckmann talked about how the story for "The Last of Us: Part 2" will progress. During a panel for the game in this year's PlayStation Experience, Druckmann that the narrative will deviate from the first installment, which tackled love. "This story is about hate," he explained.
Druckmann also said that the story will kick off several years after the first game in the hit franchise wrapped up. "The Last of Us: Part 2" will serve as a "complementary story" to the first installment. The development team decided to continue with the story-telling of Joel and Ellie's survival instead of pick up new characters for the sequel.
Meanwhile, Kotaku notes that the player will now enter the title as Ellie. In the first installment, players took on Joel, while Ellie served as a supporting character. According to the outlet, Ellie's voice actress Ashley Johnson shed some light on how Ellie's plot for "The Last of Us: Part 2" was developed. "She's gone through some sh*t," Johnson said.
Druckmann also took some time to address the concern of fans regarding "The Last of Us: Part 2" potentially corrupting the ambiguous original ending of the first installment. "You have to understand that no one loves these characters more than we do... all I ask is that fans of the first one put some faith in us, trust that we're going to do right by them," he remarked.
For now, fans can only wait until "The Last of Us: Part 2" lands on the PlayStation 4 to find out how Ellie's story will pick up from Joel's big lie in the first game's finale. Naughty Dog has yet to make an official announcement about the sequel's release date.
