Microsoft's VR Headset Release Date, Price & Specs: Microsoft's VR Headset Is Better Than Oculus Rift

Microsoft Corporation has been in the technology industry for so long. And now, the company is trying their luck in virtual reality as it unveils its newest offering for the masses.

The virtual reality world is usually conceived as a limited industry due to its expensive price. Given this, Microsoft is working on an affordable Windows 10 virtual reality headset which is expected to release in April 2017. There was no official announcement yet with regard to the price, but according to a report, its price is only at $299 which is way cheaper than Vive and Oculus Rift.

The VR headsets for Windows 10 will be offered to Microsoft partners including Dell, Lenovo, HP, Asus, and Acer.

Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President of Microsoft's Windows and Devices Group said in a statement, "These headsets will be the first and only to ship with inside-out, six degrees of freedom sensors." He even added, "Unlike every other virtual reality headsets in the market today this means there'll be zero need for a separate room, zero need for a complicated setup. And while those other less immersive accessories today cost over $500, most of the time requiring a new, expensive device, we're announcing today that these Windows 10 Creators Update accessories will start at just $299."

According to VR World, Microsoft and Intel are working closely to build conventional specifications of Windows VR headset and the latter even introduced its standalone concept called Project Alloy. Accordingly, PC requirements include a quad-core CPU, 4GB RAM, USB 3.0 port, and a graphics card with DirectX 12 support.

Microsoft VR Headset will have a built-in sensor technology and is not designed solely for hardcore gamers, unlike Vive and Oculus. It also targets those who would like to play in VR using their mobile phones.

Meanwhile, Satya Nadella, Microsoft's CEO told its stakeholders in the annual meeting that Microsoft will continue to seek for innovations of different forms and functions for mobile devices to cater its users.
