Tearaway for PlayStation Vita – What we know so far

Tearway is the upcoming adventure title that's arriving for the Sony's PlayStation 4, currently in development by Media Molecule of LittleBigPlanet fame.

The game was announced at Sony's PlayStation Press Conference at Gamescom in August of last year, and revolves around a character named Iota. According to Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans, "Tearaway is kind of like a buddy movie. It stars Iota, a messenger from a paper dimension whose envelope head contains an urgent message to deliver...to you! It's a very special message, and one that's unique for each and every player."

"In order to read yours, you'll need to take up the role of co-star and, together with iota, journey through the vibrant papery landscape-two buddies going on an epic adventure to deliver this important message."

The world of Tearaway is based on 3D, as far as in-game exploration is concerned. However, on an overall, it has been built with flat, 2D paper to offer the game a unique look. The basic idea here is that the player will be interacting with a realistic living world, something which the gameplay mechanics will relate to.

"Using the god-like powers inherent to someone who can hold an entire world in their giant hands, you can make your presence felt using a whole range of godly powers that take advantage of all of the Vita's bells and whistles-some subtle and some epic. You can shake things up or turn them upside down."

"A gentle breath from you is a gusty storm. You can even poke your fingers into the back of the PS Vita to tear through into the world and help iota complete this very special delivery," according to Media Molecule's announcement. So what you have here is a game that sees players interact with its environments in a way we've never seen before.

When the back of the Vita is poked, it actually reveals what the rear-camera is seeing at the time. You can also blow on your handheld to create in-game wind and scream at the top of your lungs to create a blast from a megaphone which will knock back objects and enemies, just like described.

Players can also make use of real world objects and textures and place them inside the game in any way they like, as this has been made possible the Vita's rear camera that allows you to snap any kind of texture you want in no time. Also the touchscreen allows you to cut paper and make a variety of objects out of them.

Tearaway is currently scheduled for official release on Nov. 22.
