If you're a big Disney fan, RPG buff, or one in the same, let's hope you're feeling patient. In case you're not familiar with staff behind the scenes, y'know, the guys who actually make the games, let's bring you up to speed.
You may or may not be familiar with Tetsuya Nomura, who's directing Final Fantasy XV. He's also directing the recently unveiled Kingdom Hearts III, and as both projects are a considerably massive undertaking, he's not doing both at once. Final Fantasy XV was once known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but evidently ran into a few problems, and had its release pushed back to release on next-gen systems. However, it's still further along in development than Kingdom Hearts III. See where this is going?
In plain english, Kingdom Hearts producer Shinji Hashimoto told IGN earlier this week, "Both [Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV] have Tetsuya Nomura as their director, so we can't create these two big games at the same time." The likliest of scenarios is that we'll be seeing Final Fantasy XV long before we see Sora or Mickey pick up a keyblade in Kingdom Hearts III, which might explain the Disney mash up's briefest of trailers at this year's E3.
Factor in the fact that Square Enix hasn't given a year when gamers can expect FFXV, and it'll be some time before we see Kingdom Hearts III, or any more information for it.
"A lot of people have wondered for the last couple of years if Square Enix has actually been working on Kingdom Hearts III; that's why we announced it at E3 this year," Hashimoto said. "But please, we need you all to understand that there's a lot to do."
Suffice it to say, if you're craving more Kingdom Hearts, best go pick up Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX. There's also rumors of a similar HD revamp for Kingdom Hearts 2, as 2.5 but we'll get to that in due time.
Apart from that, all we can tell you about KH3 is that it will pick up right where Nintendo 3DS exclusive Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance concluded, and is set to close out the "Xehanort saga."
