It has been eight years since the last movie in the "Indiana Jones" franchise was released. Despite the clamor of fans, it seems that "Indiana Jones 5" won't be released in the next two years at least.
It appears that "Indiana Jones 5" has not even begun any pre-production. Frank Marshall, longtime producer of the "Indiana Jones" franchise admitted that the next movie was still in the thinking stages. Walt Disney Studios will be the distributor of the future films in the franchise, but it seems that it has not yet decided on what direction the new movie will head.
The delay for "Indiana Jones 5" might also have something to do with the fact that Harrison Ford, who plays the archaeologist with a penchant for adventure, has been busy reprising his role as Han Solo in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". There was even news that Ford would not come back as the titular character due to his busy schedule.
There's also no news on whether the other characters from "Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" will come back for "Indiana Jones 5." In particular, fans might want to know if Shia LaBeouf and Karen Allen will reprise their roles as Jones' wife and biological son. It will be remembered that in the last film, Indiana Jones married Marion Williams nee Ravenwood played by Allen. Ravenwood was last seen in the movie "Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark."
Indiana Jones then discovered that he fathered a son with Ravenwood named Mutt Williams. Williams played a sidekick role to Jones for the movie before they discovered the truth. It is unknown if he will still be playing a sidekick in "Indiana Jones 5."
Despite the long wait, fans of "Indiana Jones" will be thrilled to know that the fifth movie in the franchise will not be the last.
