EA has announced that there will be no other Battlefield game franchise in the next years. The confirmation came after the publisher chief said that the production team will focus on "Star Wars Battlefront" title set for its release in late 2017.
Leaving biggest game franchises has been a new trend coming after two publishers announced about it. Ubisoft recently announced that it will give the "Assassin's Creed" series a year off. It means that "Assassin's Creed" fans will not see another release of the game by the end of next year. Now EA followed Ubisoft's move in ending its "Battlefield" release cycle hoping it will gain new interest for the series, IGN reported.
EA's chief financial officer, Blake Jorgensen announced EA's plan for "Battlefield" at the Nasdaq Investor Programme. He stated that EA "won't have another Battlefield back for a couple of years. Next year we'll have Battlefront, the Star Wars game." He said that the publisher's decision in leaving "Battlefield" temporarily is a move that will help the production team to focus on "Star Wars Battlefront."
According to Videogamer, Blake Jorgensen added that the EA decision with "Battlefield" centers on how it can improve "Star Wars Battlefront," to address player's criticism for the game. "We were really working with the old canvas of Star Wars, the old trilogy," he added.
Moreover, Jorgensen pointed out that EA is not using new materials that came out with the Episode 7 of "Star Wars" since their game was released before the movie. "Next year we'll have the opportunity to leverage more of that content from the new movies and we think that'll make the opportunity much larger," Jorgensen clarified.
Meanwhile, with EA's point of ending "Battlefield" release cycle is nothing new as the other publishers are experiencing gamer fatigue. To recall, in 2012 "Dishonored" co-director had said that marketing the game became a pain since it influences the creative process because of too much expectation from the fans.
