The "Adventure Time: Islands" mini-series will serve as Season 8's primer -- and fans should start holding on to whatever they can before the cult animated series ends soon. Confirmed by Cartoon Network itself, "Adventure Time's" near departure is difficult to digest but, at least, there's still time to catch up.
"Adventure Time: Islands" Prequel To Mini-Series Comes In A Graphic Novel
Comics Alliance reports that an original graphic novel titled "Adventure Time: Islands" is to be published by Kaboom, written by show writer Ashly Burch and illustrated by Diigii Daguna. The story goes back in time to the outcome of the Mushroom War, featuring Bunny Girl and her tribe of human survivors.
The "Adventure Time: Islands" comic book is now on sale for $9.99 under Diamond Code SEP161396. Its cover is illustrated by Kaboom's "Adventure Time" original artist team Braden Lamb and Shelli Paroline. The publisher hasn't released any more details about the new comic book, but fans should see Bunny Girl and her adventures.
The End Is Near: Grab A Copy Of "Adventure Time: Islands" Already
After eight years and 71 hours of programming, "Adventure Time" is to say its goodbyes. LA Times reports that the Emmy-winning animated series will be ending in 2018, but fans should see new content to debut on Cartoon Network including the mini-series "Adventure Time: Islands," specials, and Season 9, which will be its last.
"'Adventure Time' changed the definition of what a kids' TV series could be, and it's had a resounding impact upon popular culture around the world," said Cartoon Network's chief content officer Rob Sorcher. "Cartoon Network Studios is proud to have brought together this group of brilliant artists and animators who helped make Adventure Time one of the most critically acclaimed TV series of a generation," he added. While the show's retirement is sad news for its cult following, this also means that there's more to anticipate other than "Adventure Time: Islands."
"Adventure Time: Islands" is slated to air this winter, December 2016 or January 2017. Currently, Cartoon Network is also in production for its ninth and final season.
