Rob Letterman has been known for their works; "Lake Placid," "Shrek," and "Shark Tale." Most of his movies received good reviews from the viewers. Now, he has been set by Legendary Entertainment to direct the "Pokemon" live-action movie with the title "Detective Pikachu."
Letterman knows that the "Pokemon" live-action movie is very sensitive when it comes to the critics. Many movies remakes failed before when they did not hit the expectation of the viewers. A report from MovieWeb reveals that Legendary has put this project on the track with production being projected to start in early 2017. The studio acquired the film and TV rights to the "Pokémon" franchise back in July, although there were reports that the "Pokémon" live-action movie may not come too quickly. Just days after acquisition, Legendary announced that their deal with the Pokémon Company was finalized.
Variety says Universal Pictures will handle distribution of the "Pokémon" live-action movie outside Japan as it has done with Legendary's other films for years. The Pokemon Company's long-time movie collaborator, Toho, will handle distribution of the film franchise in Japan.
Letterman is will also direct the "Dungeons and Dragons" movie for Warner Bros and the Mr. Underpants movie. Still no confirmed date for "Pokemon" live-action movie's release, but speculations says it will be released on 2018.
