YouTube is getting a hit from its top performers once more. It turns out that the issue about subscriber loss continues to batter numerous YouTube channels. Notorious gaming commentator JackSepticEye is just one of the YouTubers who has recently slammed the platform.
In a video posted on Tuesday, JackSepticEye claimed that some video creators have noticed that they lost around 30 to 40 percent of the usual viewership. YouTube has allegedly refused to provide any reasonable explanations. "This is people's careers. To completely switch how you do things and not tell anybody is a sh*tty thing to do," he said.
Another YouTuber, h3h3Productions, also came up with a video that accused YouTube of the same issue. "YouTube is not being honest with us," he said. He also provided a number of screen shots from Twitter where his fans have informed him that the platform has stopped sending them notifications on new videos from his channel. He added that the number of subscribers he has is being reduced for unknown reasons.
Kotaku's Cecilia D'Anastasio had an e-mail conversation with Jim Sterling, another famous game critic on YouTube regarding the problem. According to D'Anastasio, Sterling revealed that this concern has been going on for years. "YouTube's notification system for subscribers can be utterly awful, and as with many problems YouTube has, fixing it isn't a priority whatsoever," Sterling ranted.
When D'Anastasio reached out to the renowned video uploading platform, a representative told her that it's not uncommon. The spokesperson went on to explain that the company has reviewed the matter extensively but they did not discover anything wrong. The rep explained that there is no anomaly and "YouTube never automatically unsubscribes users from channels."
Top YouTubers believe that the platform is highlighting sponsored videos instead of those that are merited. For YouTube, though, it's just business.
The rep did not respond to D'Anastasio's questions regarding the alleged changes in promotion algorithms that YouTube may have applied. It appears that until now, JackSepticEye, h3h3Productions, and other YouTubers are still waiting for an official and acceptable explanation.
