"Shrek 5" is expected to hit movie screens in 2019. DreamWorks Animation storytellers Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn had earlier mentioned that the Michael McCullers of Austin Powers fame was writing the script. They praised the story being awesome and that it's a great idea McCullers is exploring.
It is not yet known whether Mitchell and Dohrn are a part of the Shrek project though fans believe they are. This is because both teased fans with a simple reply, "who knows?" when asked whether they are part of the project, reported The Hollywood News. It is known that the two are busy with "Sky High" and their commitment towards this movie could keep them away from "Shrek 5."
The "Shrek" movie franchise has come a long way and fans are now eagerly expecting the fifth movie to release. With four movies already reaching blockbuster status, Shrek, today, is a popular icon among both adults and kids. Since reports about the "Shrek 5" movie started trickling in, fans have been participating in discussions, trying to eke out the slightest of details.
It has been reported that most of the voice characters will return to "Shrek 5." Popular American comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, who lends his voice for the iconic character Donkey, accidentally revealed that the movie script is done. The movie will come under DreamWorks Animation that has been now acquired fully by NBC Universal.
It has also been revealed that NBC Universal wants "Shrek 5" desperately as it wants DreamWorks prime franchise to roll once again. NBC has reportedly approved the studio's another film "Shadows." Moreover, the movie's pre-production has already begun. Murphy has also praised the movie script though character details are not yet known, reported Cinemablend.
"They took a nice long break [after 2010's Shrek Forever After]. The next Shrek ... I think Jeffrey [Katzenberg, producer] told me 2019? 2019 or 2020, it will be ready.
