Season one of Telltale's The Walking Dead and 400 Days coming to the Ouya

Here's another reason to grab yourself the affordable crowd funded Ouya system, provided you can find one.

Telltale Games announced that both the first season and first piece of DLC for the award winning The Walking Dead will be available on the console sometime later this year. A post over at Telltale's Blog read:

"Exciting times ahead... Telltale is partnering up with the good people at OUYA to bring The Walking Dead to OUYA! All 5 episodes in The Walking Dead: Season One AND the 400 Days DLC will be available on OUYA at the same time later this year. Even better, the whole of Episode 1 will be completely free to try! We're not planning to stop there either - Season Two of the game will be on OUYA as well. We have an OUYA set up in the office and the team's been discovering tons of great games from developers large and small, trying out a bunch of games we wouldn't normally be able to trial. We're all thrilled to add The Walking Dead to the mix on this platform!"

The Walking Dead's addition to the Ouya's library is no doubt a welcome one. It's not the exclusive title Ouya needs, but given the sheer amount of acclaim the series received, it's no doubt a celebrated accession.

Several outlets recognized Telltale's zombie story as a Game of the Year winner (or a nominee at the very least). USA Today wrote of the game, "Next time anyone questions the video game industry's ability to tell stories akin to movies and television, point them to Telltale Games' brilliant interactive adventure," wrote the newspapers's editors, who claimed the five-episode series as "an emotionally gripping journey, and the best video game offered in 2012."

Similarly, aggregate review site Metacritic also claims The Walking Dead as the year's best reviewed game, as did the Spike TV Video Game Awards.

The series is a point and click styled game that follows former professor turned convict Lee Everett, with eight year old Clementine, as the two struggle and survive their way through zombie infested Georgia, eventually coming into contact with several characters of the comic. Using inventory items in conjunction with the environment, players guide Everett to survive against the hungry hordes.

According to the comic's creator Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead game is more focused on developing characters and story and less on action that is featured in other zombie-based games, which certainly helped give it so many accolades.

Telltale hasn't given a specific date for when the game will hit the Ouya, but a launch version of the console comes pre-loaded with both the game's first season and the 400 Days DLC. A New Day, the first episode of Season One, will be available free of charge.
