Sophie Turner has hinted that her character, Sansa Stark, may find herself in the midst of a power struggle in the upcoming "Game of Thrones" season 7. This comes right on the heels of Sansa finally seeming to have reclaimed some sense of her own power in the final episodes of season 6, when she became key to Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) victory in taking back Winterfell and in getting rid of her sadistic husband Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). Sansa's rise to power was a long-awaited one. Since the first season of the popular HBO fantasy drama, the eldest Stark daughter had been helpless as many of her family members and her family's loyal subjects were killed off.
Though the end of "Game of Thrones" season 6 showed that Sansa had become Jon's right-hand (wo)man - a necessary ally in his quest to unite the North against the White Walkers - Turner recently revealed that the character's triumph may be short-lived. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actress said that while Sansa now has some influence over what goes on in the North, setbacks will soon emerge.
"She's seemingly in control for the first time -- and it really suits her," the "Game of Thrones" star told the outlet. "She's kind of having a bit of a power trip. But she's also becoming more insecure, because there are threats to the power that she holds."
While the actress did not indicate where these threats will come from, fans have been speculating that Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) could complicate things and create tension between Sansa and Jon. Because spoilers have already revealed that Sansa's younger siblings, Arya (Maisie Williams) and Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright), could soon be joining her and Jon at Winterfell, there's also the possibility that she and Arya -- who was closer to Jon than she ever was -- could clash. The threat could also be Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) or Cersei (Lena Headey), both of whom will be key players in "Game of Thrones" season 7.
"What overall excites me about this season is that main characters are coming together and it feels like things are ramping up," Turner said about the upcoming season. "It's really exciting and all feels like it's coming to a big conclusion."
Meanwhile, a seconds-long clip from "Game of Thrones" season 7 has fueled the rumors that the Stark children are due for a reunion at Winterfell when the show returns. In the clip, Jon is seen on the ramparts at Winterfell while Sansa is seen standing in the godswood. Interestingly, while the location of Arya, who is seen on horseback, is uncertain, the fact that the character is dressed in winter clothing seems to indicate that she is in the North or is headed there.
"Game of Thrones" season 7 debuts in 2017 on HBO.
