The back half of "Vikings" season 4 will have Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) feuding with King Ecbert (Linus Roache) in a scene that reportedly challenged both actors. While the first half of season 4 showed Ragnar struggling with addiction and suffering a crushing defeat, the second half will feature the legendary Viking returning to Kattegat before journeying to England to see King Ecbert about an old issue with the Vikings.
Fimmel and Roache recently spoke to AOL Build about the upcoming latter half of "Vikings" season 4 and dished about Ragnar and King Ecbert's confrontation. As fans recall, King Ecbert betrayed the Vikings when he went back on his word and had a Viking settlement destroyed. This was after he had promised the Vikings that he would leave the settlement alone.
According to Roache, the upcoming scene in "Vikings" season 4, in which Ragnar and his character clash, was one of the most challenging he has had to perform. While the actor did not confirm if Ragnar and King Ecbert's feud would result in a war, he did say that the meeting was "very interesting" and was very difficult for his character. He also said that the meeting occurred behind closed doors, with just Ragnar and King Ecbert present.
Roache also revealed that he and Fimmel had a lot of input in the scene, which was written by "Vikings" showrunner Michael Hirst. "A lot of thought went into how we are going to pull this off, what do these two men do when they confront each other," he explained. "And Michael was part of it, we were. Travis had a lot of very good and strong ideas. I had a lot of good and strong ideas. So, we butted heads quite a lot. But it was all for the sake of the show." The upcoming confrontation between Ragnar and King Ecbert will reportedly take place over two episodes of "Vikings" season 4, with their conversation taking up almost an entire hour. Despite this, Fimmel and Roache sad that viewers will definitely not be bored by the pair's scenes.
Meanwhile, the latest clip for "Vikings" season 4 shows Ragnar returning to Kattegat and interacting with his former subjects. Hirst appears in the video to talk about the various character arcs and plot points that will be introduced in the latter half of the season. "Vikings" season 4 debuts its second half on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 9 p.m. ET on History.
