Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 is based on the new GPU called GP1060 that possess many of the features of GP104, but in a more mainstream package. Nvidia says that the 1060 is good for Nvidia GeForce GTX 980-class frame rates though it is only a 120W card.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 sells at $250 and sports a presumably less expensive implementation compared to the Nvidia GeForce drivers 1070 and 1080, according to report. The new card is not small though as it measures 25.4 cm long from the slot cover to the end of the card, 10.7 cm tall from the tops of the motherboard to the top of the card and 3.8 cm deep. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 is not light either at 845g.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 is made of a mixture of aluminum and plastic for its shroud. The cover and the fan is removable as one piece. It has an illuminated GeForce GTX logo along with a six-pin power connector.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060's back end is a bit different as it has a normal cover without an opening unlike previous designs which often have air intakes where the cooler protrudes beyond the board, servicing the radial fan. There is also no backplate due to costing concerns. Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 has an axial fan that allows relatively low amount of waste heat.
Meanwhile, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060's I/O panel the same as Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 and Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1070. It is integrated with three DisplayPort connectors, which are version 1.2-compatible. In addition, there is an HDMI 2.0 connector with a dual-link DVI connector, but no analog output is available, Legit Reviews reported.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060's power connector situated in a part of the cooler protruding beyond the actual PCA is noticeable. The implementation is elegant and it prevents Nvidia GeForce partners from building shorter 1060s. Although Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 is 17.5cm long, it doesn't have space to accommodate a power connector. Watch Nvidia GTX 1060 Review - RX 480 Killer?
