Killer Instinct is getting a little bit closer to a retail release. Microsoft announced earlier today that they have two bundles planned for the once free-to-play fighter, each of which offers its own selection of characters, stages, and more.
First up, the Combo Breaker bundle. At a reasonable $19.99, this is the cheaper option of the two, and offers six characters, all of which will be available at the game's launch, as well as a training mode. For those who want a little more bang for their buck, you have the Ultra Combo bundle, which offers everything the Combo Breaker bundle has, but throws in two more characters that will be available after the game's launch, more stages, costumes, accessory packs, and the original Killer Instinct, which is almost enough on its own to guarantee a purchase for some fans. As it's a little meatier, the Ultra Combo bundle will set players back $39.99.
The bundles aren't the only means of grabbing Killer Instinct, the title will still be free-to-play, and you'll still be able to go ala carte download each character individually if you'd like.
When Double Helix's Killer Instinct hits Xbox One, it will launch with only one playable character - Jago. Producer Torin Rettig tried to justify this decision saying, "Most fighting games that come out are disc based games where you get a huge cast of awesome characters, but it is a massive cast. Some games have anywhere between 30, 40, even 50 characters...You just only have so much time to get good at so many characters. So we wanted to take that into consideration and release the game in a way that took that into consideration and allowed players to get in and play the game at the level that they want to play it."
Other characters announced include Glacius, Sabrewulf, Fulgore, Spinal, Cinder, and Chief Thunder was recently unveiled. All that's missing are Orchid, Riptor, and T.J. Combo to make up the original game's lineup. To keep things interesting, I wouldn't be surprised if Double Helix added in brand new characters to the game after launch.
