Sony at Gamescom 2013 – What to expect

Sony is expected to showcase big things at the upcoming Gamescom 2013. With the upcoming PlayStation 4 and most of its details already out in the open, fans will be looking ahead to expect even bigger things from the company related to new releases, exclusives, and added incentives for all those who opt for the PS4 later this year.

While we've yet to find out what Sony has in store for the event, we can at least assume what's probable. Below is the list of things that Sony could theoretically announce at Gamescom 2013.

- One of the first things that fans will look for from Sony presentation is the final release date of the PS4 console. We all know that Sony is ready to jump into the next generation with the enhanced PlayStation 4 and a list of exclusive titles that are also set to arrive with the console’s release, but what we don’t know now is when the console will actually see an official release. The company has already added a holiday 2013 tag to the console, as far as a release date is concerned.

- Next up, more details are expected on the previous rumor stating that Sony is set to offer a PlayStation 4 and PS Vita bundle that will be available for $500. While this only a rumor, it could turn out to be true, as in the long run, Sony is aware of the problems and lack of sales the Vita faces, and will look to invigorate the Vita with its new Remote Play feature for the PS4. However, we hardly believe that the bundle will actually cost $500. Nonetheless, we will know more about that in the upcoming days.

- Sticking to the not-so-popular PS Vita, we also expect Sony to announce some kind of a price drop for the handheld to give it a second chance to improve sales. While we are not getting into a debate about how logical it would be for Sony to announce a price cut for the Vita, it’s definitely a step forward to leverage the handheld back in contention against the likes of the 3DS from Nintendo.

Apart from this, Sony is expected to fill us up on the PS3 and PS2 backwards compatibility via Gaikai, which is one of PlayStation 4′s much flaunted features, as far as dealing with Cloud computing is concerned. One of the biggest benefits of this technology is that it’s all set to support backwards compatibility to the titles running on PlayStation 3. We also expect that fans won’t have to pay anything additionally in order to access the backwards compatibility feature.

Gamescom is currently set to take place in Cologne, Germany from Aug. 21 to 25.
