Zombies are always a good gaming prospect, but what’s better than free zombies? Well, nothing it seems according to Deep Silver. According to reports, the Dead Island franchise is going online with a brand new PC-based free-to-play zombie multiplayer game.
Publisher Deep Silver has announced Dead Island: Epidemic, a brand new online multiplayer battle arena. The setting of the game is supposed to take place in the "Dead Island universe," with Deep Silver stating that it has big plans for the franchise. The publisher has also urged fan to stay tuned for more on Dead Island in general.
“Deep Silver today announced Dead Island: Epidemic, a new ZOMBA (Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena) game set in the ever-expanding Dead Island universe. Dead Island: Epidemic will pit three teams of players against each other in a desperate fight for survival. Dead Island: Epidemic is a Free-to-Play PC title that will feature all the trademark elements that are part of a Dead Island experience,” the official press release states.
While we're still not sure what we can expect from the game, one of the biggest expectations from our part is the wish that the game doesn’t end up like the previous Dead Island: Riptide which, of course, was just a sort of a rehash of the first Dead Island game with little or no inclusion of any kind eye rollers.
As far as the new game, Dead Island: Epidemic is concerned, expect at least some (if not all) of the trademark gameplay elements of the Dead Island franchise, the primary of which rests on fighting zombies in an open world with a strong emphasis on melee combat and the weapons involved, alongside all those weirdly crafted weapons found all over the in-game world.
Since the game is based on a multiplayer battle arena, it is still not clear whether or not there will be the option to play as zombies.
Epidemic, as of now, is also set to be the third Dead Island game, following the original in 2011 and this year's Dead Island: Riptide. Both the titles were released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as well as PC. While the previous games were developed by Techland, the new announcement didn't mention who is in charge of developing Epidemic.
Techland is currently said to be working on another zombie game titled Dying Light for next-gen consoles.
