While it's good news for Nintendo that it's not-so-lucky Wii U console is finally seeing some action with titles such as Call of Duty: Ghosts confirmed for the platform, the company is finding out that everything comes with a catch. Case in point with Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Blacklist that is set to run on the Wii U platform. As revealed by Ubisoft Shanghai producer Liu Jun, Splinter Cell: Blacklist's Wii U version won't feature offline co-op.
As of now, the game is said to offer connected single-player campaign, while allowing players to effortlessly drop into a friend's play almost any time.
In a recent interview with Nintendo Life, Jun confirmed that the version allotted for play on the Wii U will scrap the option of offline co-op play because "In order to ship at the same time as the other consoles, we unfortunately weren't able to delve into this feature. But we think Nintendo gamers will be really excited to get the game at the same time as other consoles."
Jun stated that co-op is optional and the missions compliment the storyline of the single player campaign. "It is important to note, however, that almost all of the co-op missions can be played by a single player if they choose to do so. The gameplay will be different, as we have a number of co-op specific moves that can't be completed when you're by yourself, and we're really proud of the level of variety offered through our co-op missions."
While fans may not be happy to know that the Wii U version of the game will not support the same features as that of the console versions of the game, nonetheless, Jun went on to describe the importance and impact of the Wii U's gamepad on the title.
"In Splinter Cell Blacklist players are going to be constantly making a lot of important tactical choices on the fly - whether to go lethal or non-lethal, or choosing which weapons and gadgets to use in tricky situations," he added.
"The GamePad helps the player make tactical choices on the fly, without breaking the flow of the game or the tension of the story. At any moment and by simple touch, you can pick any of your weapons or gadgets, mark enemies & execute them, or switch from lethal to non-lethal takedowns."
Splinter Cell: Blacklist is currently set for an Aug. 20 release on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U. Check out the Wii U trailer below.
