The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim wins Amazon's 'The Greatest Game of the Generation'

There's no doubt that Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was a massive hit on virtually every platform it was released on, with high ratings, great reviews, and eagerly awaited DLC. But compared to all the other games that have released for this generation of games? That's hard to say. Everyone has an opinion, and on the internet, folks tend to be considerably more disagreeable, obnoxious, and speak their minds rather poorly, traditionally following explanation points with a series of 1's for whatever reason in an attempt to hammer home their "point." No matter, Amazon conducted a simple poll to keep out the trolls, and find out which title would be named as the greatest game of the generation. In the end, Skyrim walked away as cock of the walk.

The poll was voted on between June 1 and August 4, with votes cast by Amazon's customers, and operated in a tournament system. Skyrim easily took down Super Mario Galaxy, before trouncing the original BioShock, and going up against Uncharted 2: Among Thieves to win the final bracket. On the other side, The Last of Us began by beating out Far Cry 3, and later Grand Theft Auto IV before going up against Red Dead Redemption. Between Skyrim and Red Dead, Skyrim emerged victorious. BioShock Infinite, The Walking Dead, Fallout 3, Portal 2, Mass Effect 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Batman: Arkham City were also involved in the tournament, but never made it past their respective first rounds.

Game of the generation? That's in the eye of the beholder, but in the least, it's an excellent title that you can lose days of your life in, and is more than deserving of a play.

In related news, Bethesda recently announced an anthology collection that bundles almost every single Elder Scrolls title in one massive collection, including Skyrim and all of its associated DLC: Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. The anthology is a PC exclusive only though, set to release in September, but there is a Skyrim bundle with all the DLC that was recently released called The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition. Also, Bethesda is still working on its MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online. It's set 1000 years before the events of Skyrim, when Daedra and their creatures were considerably more numerous, and free to roam about the lands later reserved for more humanoid races.

A number of the franchise's races, creatures, and settings are set to factor into The Elder Scrolls Online in one way or another. We'll keep you posted as Bethesda reveals more information about it.
