Rockstar's upcoming open world thriller Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the most massively anticipated games of the year, with players dealing with not one, but three main protagonists. One of the previous criticisms the game received was the fact that GTA 5 would be shipping on two discs, with a mandatory install required for both consoles. However, Rockstar now has more to follow up on that.
Although the title has promised a number of added features in the game, alongside the fact that it will offer one of the biggest open worlds the franchise has ever experienced, some fans are expressing disappointment, as players will need to make a mandatory installation, no matter what system they purchased the game for. Rockstar is standing its ground and explained its installation requirement.
"A bigger install means a bigger game. I don't know why some of you are complaining," Rockstar wrote on Twitter. It seems like Rockstar does have a point there. When expecting a huge open world, we should also expect some added baggage along with it, ergo, in order to offer that massive open world, Rockstar will need you install the game. It's as simple as that.
In defense of its mandatory installation procedure, and answering question related to the subject back in early July, Rockstar wrote: "In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems. For Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto V will ship on two discs; Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. After the install, players will be able to enjoy both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online without any need to switch discs."
"This initial install will require an Xbox 360 Hard Drive or an external 16GB USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space. If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance. For PlayStation3, the game ships on one disc and will install content as soon as you insert the game. The install is roughly 8GB, and players will be able to play as soon as the install is complete."
Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently scheduled for a release on Sept. 17 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
