Jeff Kanew saw this day coming. As a multi-billion dollars a year industry, with movies, tournaments, and such, no longer are video games and gaming in general relegated to musty basements. It's officially pop culture (arguably, it has been for years). Acknowledging as much, YouTube is launching "Geek Week," a celebration of all aspects of geek culture, including video games.
"With more than half of our top 20 non-music channels dedicated to geek culture, YouTube has become a top destination for fans everywhere to create, share and watch geek content." said Danielle Tiedt, Chief Marketing Officer, YouTube. "We're excited to shine a spotlight on this global community during Geek Week and debut all-new videos and series created by some of our most popular channel partners."
Movies, sci-fi, science trivia and more will all be included during the week long event, but you'll probably want to tune in for "Gaming Thursday" on August 8th, which will offer play-thrus, games in real life, original series, and more. This day of programming will be hosted by Machinima, and produced in conjunction with Nerdist.
Each day is hosted by a different YouTube channel, so if you're also interested in what else YouTube will be highlighting that week, you can check out a schedule below:
