Call of Duty: Ghosts - What is Activision adding this year?

The upcoming Call of Duty title, Call of Duty: Ghosts is the upcoming FPS from Infinity Ward and Activision, will be the tenth main installment in the Call of Duty series, and the sixth developed by Infinity Ward.

Ghosts has been in news for quite some time now, with earlier reveals for the game showcasing live-action teaser trailer titled "Masked Warriors," featuring glimpses of people wearing historical battle apparel, chief among them being a group of soldiers putting on the iconic skull mask shown on the game's box art. The game was finally revealed at the Xbox One reveal event.

Since then, the game has seen a lot of new details pouring in almost every day, ranging from in-game features to characters details. However, among everything else, one of the most important things we know about the game is that the company is set to start a new subseries with Ghosts, which will coincide with the launch of next generation consoles entering the market.

Ghosts has a lot of new things to offer as compared to its predecessors. Infinity Ward has already promised to introduce new detailing technology, game play, and new characters, alongside an unexpected new plot. With Ghosts, the winds of change are blowing.

First up, Infinity Ward has given us a glimpse of the future already, as far as multiplayer is concerned with the introduction of the new Free Fall maps. Obviously, Free Fall points at more dynamic maps for the future of the series: “The brand-new Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer map Free Fall drops you into a shattered skyscraper on the brink of collapse. Sideways staircases climb into the night sky, elevator shafts run along the ground, and what were once windows now form a terrifying glass floor, hundreds of feet above the city streets,” the official page states.

“Free Fall's close-quarters combat and frenetic action are thrown into overdrive as the ruined skyscraper continues to fall throughout the match, an example of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ new dynamic multiplayer events. With every drop, the accompanying shockwaves cause further destruction, disrupting sightlines and constantly evolving paths and chokepoints as the map changes in real-time.”

With the new maps in contention, the individual multiplayer games are bound to get more interesting with all the unpredictability and dangers on a modern battlefield.

Ghosts will also see the first-ever playable introduction of man’s best friend in a Call of Duty title, the lovable and trained killing machine, Riley the dog. Infinity Ward is making sure that our four-legged friend will assist us is all the black operations we conduct deep inside enemy territory. Maybe Riley will make an appearance in the multiplayer aspect of the game as well.

This time around, the in-game story takes a major turn with the player not being a part of superpower anymore. Now, players take up a role in the now fallen from grace United States looking to rediscover its former glory. Despite taking place in the future, Ghosts' soldiers have been reduced to using modern day armaments due to some sort of a calamity, though we're still in the dark as to what that is.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is currently set for a Nov. 5 release.
