Ryse: Son of Rome is the upcoming action adventure title in development under Crytek and is set to be published by Microsoft studios. The game will be an exclusive set to release during the Xbox One launch.
Ryse was first announced during Microsoft’s press conference at E3 2011 and was among other Xbox 360 exclusive titles. However, this past May, after the announcement of the Xbox One, Ryse was confirmed to be an exclusive for the new Xbox One, and gameplay for the title was showcased by Crytek in June at the Microsoft’s panel during this year's E3.
The game tells the story of Marius Titus, who witnessed the murder of his entire family at the hands of barbarians. Seeking revenge, Marius joins the Roman army in Britannia, rapidly rising through the ranks to become a General in no time.
The game will involve working with the Roman infantry by giving commands to them as well as quick time event controlled finishing moves during combat. The story is described as an "an epic tale of revenge spanning an entire lifetime".
With the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con, more and more details about Ryse are starting to crop up. Recently, Microsoft Studios and Crytek revealed brand-new details for the game's story and characters.
As far as in-game characters are concerned, Ryse: Son of Rome, apart from Marius, will see the likes of notable historical characters like Nero, Boudica, Commodus, Oswald and more.
A multiplayer mode will also be offered, the official page stating: “Through online multiplayer, Ryse plunges you into the brutal world of the gladiator. Enter the Coliseum to fight side-by-side with your friends in dynamic environments, to the roar of ten-thousand spectators.”
Another unique aspect of the game is the Ryse digital interactive comic book. The comic, Ryse: Sword of Damocles, will tell the story of noted Roman centurion Damocles who was prepared to sacrifice his life for the glory of Rome. “But when it is taken from him by his corrupt generals, he returns from the Underworld to exact brutal revenge—and to save Rome from the men who betrayed him.”
As of now, the site for the game and the comic are in development. Ryse: Son of Rome is currently set for a November release exclusively for Xbox One.
