Obsidian wants the go ahead from Bethesda for Fallout 4

Despite rumors, there are at least two truths concerning Fallout 4, or whatever subtitle Bethesda might decide to add to the next Fallout title. First, it will happen. Sometime. But it's anyone's guess when, and that's if it's not already in development depending on what rumors you read. Second, as of yet, Obsidian isn't involved, but they'd certainly like to be.

Speaking with GameRanx, Obsidian's Chris Avellone said that while "all of the Fallout stuff is totally up to Bethesda...we would love to do another Fallout game again."

Obsidian was responsible for the last foray into the Fallout universe, Fallout: New Vegas, for which Avellone was a senior designer, as well as project director and lead creative designer for several of the game's DLC episodes, Dead Money, Old World Blues, and Lonesome Road. He's currently working on the studio's Project Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenera.

Last we heard, an unknown "insider" claimed that Bethesda had shown a brief trailer for the fabled Fallout 4 "behind closed doors" at this year's E3. The source also claimed that Fallout 4 has been in development since January 2011 by a limited amount of people, as the rest were busy working on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Since development on Skyrim since completed with all DLC now released, the team has since grown. The "insider's" claim was denied by Bethesda VP Pete Hines, but it hasn't stopped a Swedish retailer from including Fallout 4 on a list of upcoming games for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Rumors of a new Fallout game have been dogging us since voice actor Erik Dellums, better known as Three Dog, DJ of the Capitol Wasteland, teased the idea on Twitter back in January, but that's the closest we've seen from any sort of "official" source. Despite the resounding silence from Bethesda, we remain hopeful that there is a future for Fallout.
