Sony's PlayStation VR sales is set to take over both HTC Vive and Occulus Rift's combined sales, according to the data that was gathered from GfK's consumer panel survey last October. GfK also says that PlayStation VR's hardware branding is of a high standard and may even eradicate the consumer's issue about the device. However, it is also worth noting that the research firm does not have the exact sales report from both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive from their official sites.
According to Video Gamer, GfK director Paul Simpson revealed that the early UK sales of PlayStation VR are already approaching the combined sales base of both HTC Vive and Occulus Rift. The PlayStation VR game sales are positive that the sales would grow higher with eight or nine boxed releases which are also included in the Official UK Top 40 games charts.
Given the short span of time that the PlayStation VR has been on the gaming market, it is remarkable just how it was able to take over its rivals. But Simpson says that certain factors may have contributed to Playstation VR's remarkable sales performance , MCVUK reported.
VR units that both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are making focused more on the games, which are considered to be relatively expensive due to its optimum performance. Playstation VR, however, targeted its large population of PS4 owners which comprises of at least 3.5 million in the UK alone.
The market for VR devices has recently grew in the past number of years which had been tapped by various gaming and mobile markets. Xbox Oculus Rift has been trying to develop games that will cater to this market but was only able to keep half of what PlayStation VR has earned for the past few months.
