'Pokemon Go' News & Updates: Nearby Pokemon Feature Now Expanded To North America And Australia!

One of the main gripes "Pokemon Go" players have had the game since its launch is the busted Pokemon Tracker feature. Many of players who left did so because of how difficult it was to find Pokemon in the game using the built-in finder, and because of developer Niantic Labs' banning of third-party finder apps. Now, the new Nearby feature, tested initially in San Francisco, now has a wider release.

GameSpot reports that the new Nearby feature is now available to all "Pokemon Go" players in the western part of the US, except Alaska and Hawaii, as well as the western part of Canada. Meanwhile, it's available in all of Australia. There's no exact reason given by Niantic in their official blog post as to why the new feature is only available in these selected areas, or why they chose only the western half of North America.

The Nearby feature has also been updated in the way it works. Now, the indicator will only pop up if you're anywhere close to a PokeStop, based on feedback Niantic got from players. Considering that if you live in any sort of urban area, you'll always have PokeStops to find in "Pokemon Go." However, players may not like that this new setup if they're exploring far from a PokeStop.

In recent news, a recent "Pokemon Go" update has finally brought Ditto to the game, but there's no official announcement as to when Niantic is finally bringing in the legendary Pokemon (the three birds, Mewtwo, and Mew) to the game. Another update to the game is also currently rewarding players with double experience and Stardust until November 30, as both a thank you from Niantic to the game's supporters and possibly a Black Friday promo.
