EA and Maxis may have something up their sleeves for improving SimCity. The companies have sent out a survey to players, asking what sort of improvements they might like to see in future SimCity updates.
The survey offers a number of different options, asking players to rate them on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being "not at all interested," and 5, well, you should be able to figure that out. Proposed features include:
* a rebuild tool for faster recovery
* guilds
* head to head leaderboards
* ability to raise or lower roads, creating under and overpasses
* ability to name buildings, roads, etc.
* one way roads to improve traffic flow
* subways
* weekly events, and more
Other options included different transportation methods, like a subway, but the survey is noticeably lacking in what SimCity could perhaps benefit from most of all - offline play. Overcrowded servers marred the game's launch, leaving many without the ability to play.
EA and Maxis eventually made server adjustments, allowing most to be able to play the game. The two companies offered an official apology coupled with free games, but the experience still left a bad taste in most gamers' mouths, so much so that not only did Polygon lower its review score for the game from a 9.5 out of 10 to 8.0., but the launch calamity and blowback was cited numerous times when Microsoft first unveiled their "always connected, always online" console, the Xbox One. Microsoft eventually changed their minds on that feature, but EA is still holding strong to the "Adam Orth" style.
The EA Maxis team recently announced that the game's launch on Mac was pushed back to August. But this could meant that Mac versions could get these new additions by the time the game arrives. We'll keep you posted on what features they end up going with.
