"True Detective" Season 3 is said to be in trouble and reports are circulating that the production team might need the help of ex-cast member Matthew McConaughey along with A-lister Robert Downey, Jr. to salvage the show. Apparently, the poor ratings of the second season had HBO and the people behind the show second guess about a possible third run.
Although the network has yet to confirm "True Detective" Season 3, HBO's Casey Bloys hinted that the company is already planning on renewing the show. The recent renewal of contract between writer Nic Pizzolatto and HBO is also a good indication that filming might start anytime soon. However, reports are saying that Pizzolatto will focus on an upcoming HBO series, which Downey is reportedly going to star in.
Nonetheless, fans are pretty positive that "True Detective" Season 3 will happen sooner or later. There are speculations suggesting that the American anthology crime drama television series will come back for another run in 2018, which means that production will probably start sometime next year. If rumors prove to be true, "True Detective" Season 3 with McConaughey and Downey will definitely make a mark once it comes out on the small screen.
When the first season of the series came out in early 2014, it quickly became a hit and fans immediately asked for another season, which HBO gladly obliged. However, the second run did not quite get the attention of the viewers as it failed miserably in terms of TV ratings. Now the company is said to be negotiating with McConaughey to come back for "True Detective" Season 3. The actor had also shared during an interview how much he missed working for "True Detective."
In a report by Vanity Fair, McConaughey is said to have expressed its intention to reprise his role Rust Cohle in "True Detective" Season 1. HBO has yet to make an official statement with regard to the rumor. Stay tuned for more news and updates about the upcoming "True Detective" Season 3.
