There comes a time when a game is under development for so long that it never gets released. Most people tend to forget about the game while developers have been quiet. The game is in a state of limbo, unsure of its status of whether it will be released or whether it will be stuck in development. People call this place "development hell" and one of the games known to be in it is Beyond Good and Evil 2. But recent comments by creator, Michel Ancel may give hope for the release of Beyond Good And Evil 2.
In an interview on Kotaku, Michel Ancel said that Beyond Good And Evil 2 is a "very serious development for Ubisoft." According to him, the game was in development since Rayman Legend was finished in 2013. But Beyond Good And Evil needed to be "more concrete" before being revealed in full. In September, the creator also released an artwork on Instagram for Beyond Good And Evil 2 noting that the picture was not a tease but proof that "The game exists and we can do it.'"
When asked of the long development cycle for Beyond Good And Evil 2, Michel Asel said that the delay was mostly because of the limits with technology. He said that the current physics engine and technology can't handle the concepts he was planning. "It's crazy and difficult to explain to people how technical making a game is. Now it's not anymore about polygons and things like that, it's about millions of behavioral AIs, systems, and giant spaceships crashing on big planets" the creator said. If what Asel says is true, then we can expect Beyond Good And Evil 2 one of the most advanced and demanding games ever.
With the current technology, games are getting increasingly advanced. Playing huge open world games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and The Witcher 3 are proof of the advancing technology. We can only imagine how Beyond And Evil 2 plays knowing that the current technology already has the capacity to produce huge open world games.
Nonetheless, without any official statement of its release, or even a trailer, Beyond Good And Evil 2 is still in "development hell" as its been 8 years since its initial reveal. But not all games are stuck in development hell as proven by Final Fantasy XV which is now scheduled to be release on November 28, 2016. Stay tuned for more updates.
