"Avatar 2," the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster film produced by James Cameron finally got its release date. It was reported that the movie will premiere in the United States on Dec. 21, 2018.
Then again, the date is not really official yet for "Avatar 2." This is just an estimation based on the schedule mentioned by 20th Century Fox studios. The company is releasing "Star Wars" Han Solo spin-off and ninth episode on May 25, 2018 and May 24, 2019, respectively.
Next, Fox scheduled two still unknown Marvel films for Nov. 2, 2018 and Feb. 14, 2019. With the assigned dates, it was said that Fox reserved Dec. 21, 2018 for a movie under Lightstorm production and this could be "Avatar 2."
Cameron owns Lightstorm and Fox Studios is expected to distribute "Avatar 2" and the next sequels. Looking at the facts, there is high chance that the reserved spot is for Avatar's second installment.
According to Cinema Blend, "Avatar 2" was originally set for December 2014 release, but because of the very long script that Cameron was writing, it was decided that it will be divided into three stories instead. In the end, the production took longer than expected due to the adjustments.
This resulted to the delays. The movie was moved to 2016 release date then to 2017. However, when "Star Wars: Episode 8" was announced for next year's premiere, "Avatar 2" was pulled out in the roster of 2017 movie releases.
Meanwhile, as reported by Game & Guide, Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington may not be in "Avatar 2" anymore. The were reported to be asking for higher fees which the producer cannot afford so they might just be fired. On the other hand, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang have been confirmed to return in the sequel.
To conclude, nothing has been confirmed with regards to the date when "Avatar 2" is coming to theaters. But it appears that there is good proof that shows the movie is all set for viewing by December 2018.
