The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD Projekt RED may have went on to garner acclaims and praises from critics and fans, making it one of the highly anticipated titles on the coming year. However, that doesn’t mean that the studio is resting on its laurels, not caring about its previous games, especially The Witcher 2.
According to reports, CD Projekt RED’s Andrzej Kwiatkowski is currently working on an update for The Witcher 2 to offer a revamped combat rebalance mod for fans.
The developer states that this new update will allow Geralt to dodge attacks from behind while he’s standing still. Moreover, the update is also meant to address a number of bugs and related issues that has plagued the game as well as that original version of the mod.
Kwiatkowski is planning to release this update for his mod this week and is offering up to 80 percent increase in responsiveness per Geralt's animations. Geralt will now automatically parry enemy sword attacks and deflect incoming arrows. However, this doesn't mean that Geralt is invincible. Also, there is no 100 percent chance that Geralt will actually go on to parry all attacks from behind and the value is not constant.
The value keeps on changing depending on how many hits the player blocks in a short time and from where the hits land. This means that Geralt can now block attacks while moving (part of a brand new animation). Also, Static Guard Stance is no longer required to parry enemy attacks.
With the new update, Mages and assassins will not use duration based shields, and instead they will have a chance to block each attack separately, including Witcher Signs. This has been done to remove the godmode duration from enemies that forced player to escape every time.
While Letho and elite assassins will look to counterattack when the player is relentlessly attacking them, Arachas and Endriaga Queens will learn that they should defend against sword attacks after receiving few hits.
Each of the enemies in the game, thanks to the mod, will be balanced according to their respective constitutions, combat skill, combat style, weapons and armor type. This new pattern has allowed creation of consistent rules that every character follows. “A barechested bandit won't survive more hits than a knight in platemail just because the bandit was encountered later in game,” the official PDF states.
