Apple, Inc. has just announced via their company website that they are replacing defective batteries of iPhone 6s owners for free worldwide due to the smartphone's unexpected shutdown.
In the official statement released via Apple's website, the company has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s users may experience unexpected shutdown due to its battery's slight defect. They also emphasized in the statement that the said program does not involve any safety issues and only affects certain no. of units manufactured from September to October of 2015.
Any iPhone 6s owners who may have experienced this problem may check if their unit is affected by visiting any Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider to verify if their iPhone's serial number is eligible to the battery replacement program, free of charge.

Moreover, though the replacement program was announced worldwide, the repair may only be limited or restricted to the country of purchase and Apple will not extend the standard warranty coverage of the unit.
Not only that, Apple is also offering a refund to those who have already paid to have their iPhone 6s repaired, though this is only applicable to those who are eligible for the replacement program.
According to Apple Insider, Apple's battery replacement program has been announced after the China Consumers Association (CCA) asked them to investigate the complaints raised by its customers relating to unexpected and sometimes permanent shutdown of iPhone 6 and 6s units. However, based on the official statement released, the program is applicable to select iPhone 6s units only.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Apple announced a repair program for this month. A week ago, they have also released a separate program for iPhone 6 Plus due to the flicker or Multi-touch issues after the unit is being dropped several times on a hard surface. If your iPhone 6 Plus is qualified to this repair program, Apple is willing to repair it for a service fee of $149 only.
