E3 2013: Three titles that never really took off

This year’s E3 has been an immense hit as expected with a number of big name titles making their way to fans either in the form of reveal trailers, gameplay videos or playable content. However, not everybody’s E3 outing was a huge success and we look back on those less fortunate ones that never really kicked off.

The games in this list have been placed in accordance to their performance at this year’s E3. And although we are not claiming that these are the ones that will also go on to become total failures on the future, we are just judging them by how they showcased themselves at the E3 and if there was more that could have been revealed about them by the developing companies.

Dragon Age 3: Inquisition: To be perfectly honest, we expected quite a few details about the game at this year’s E3, but then again, expectations only build up to disappoint you. And when we were just starting to forget about the game, a recent report from NeoGaf appeared to confirm that the upcoming Mass Effect title will be making use of a major amount of the core game systems found in Dragon Age 3.

However, none of this was revealed at the E3 and, accordingly, our interest about the game increased tenfold.

While we came to know that Morrigan will be returning to bring darkness to the world again, we never really got hold of a definite gameplay trailer for the game, and that’s the least we can expect in an event such as E3.

Whatever we were shown at the E3 were not even enough to what we had actually come to expect. Although the gameplay description for Dragon Age 3 states that the combat in the game is set to differ from its predecessors and focus more on a player's ability to prepare, position and form an effective team, there was nothing at the event that would offer even a glimpse of that.

Now we understand that this might be too early to ask for a detailed gameplay walkthrough for a game that’s set to arrive next year and currently in development, but Bioware could have at least given us a few details on the gameplay (if not show) and mention about the features the title will offer. After all, it is E3.

The Crew: The Crew is said to offer an open and persistent world for racing across the United States, and takes 90 minutes to drive from coast to coast in-game. Really? We really didn’t know all this because Ubisoft didn’t say anything. And that too after all that hype and speculation surrounding the game in its initial days of reveal.

When we first heard about The Crew, needless to say, we were totally impressed because you hardly come across a racing game that focuses so much on the open world. But then again, all that will remain as words on paper until we actually get to see at least a small footage from the game (let alone a gameplay walkthrough) or something similar.

Moreover, judging by the kinds of speculations the game garnered before the E3, us fans not only needed to know more about it, but we deserved it.

However, Ubisoft was not willing to deliver.

Call of Duty: Ghosts: We are as saddened as you are for placing this title in this list, simply because it doesn’t deserve to. But as we mentioned that this list is about the titles that never really delivered at E3, and against all our wishes, Call of Duty: Ghosts falls in the list.

Our question is why did Infinity Ward build us up on a massive expectation at the Xbox One reveal event, only to go ahead and let us down? It’s not even cool because fans have been playing the Call of duty franchise since forever, and any kind of information or footage (of real value) for the new game is even less than what most fans would have in mind, walking into the E3.

Needless to say, we did get see some of the gameplay footage for the game at the E3, but for the sake of comparison, was it anyway close to Battlefield 4’s ‘Fishing in Baku’ trailer? We don’t really think so.

There was nothing so special about the underwater shooting and was something we have already seen in similar titles in the past. Although we must agree that the ability to control Riley (the dog) and the camera views were pretty impressive, but that’s about it. Seriously Infinity Ward! You guys could have shown us a bit more than that. After all, your fame precedes you.
