Relic Entertainment has revealed a brand new developer diary for the multiplayer mode in Company of Heroes 2. The developer diary focuses on the inspiration of the developer, alongside what to expect from the competitive modes.
The developers state that the real aim with Company of Heroes 2 is to offer a visceral experience for what was one of the biggest battles in WWII in the eastern front, and that it’s massiveness and brutality is what that stands out for the game.
Each segment of the game has its own meaning that gives it the realistic touch based on those times while keeping in touch with the fun quotient in the game. The developers have also went on to create scenarios that will look to utilize the in-game terrains with players building their own assets.
However, everything will come down to the ones who know how to gather and utilize reinforcements better than the others. The concept of reinforcements will matter as it will determine the players’ eventual rise or demise in the in-game world.
Company of Heroes 2 is set to follow up on the critically and commercially successful Company of Heroes with the sequel taking place with the Soviet Red Army in focus. The player will take part in various missions across the Eastern Front, including the Operation Barbarossa and the Battle of Berlin. As expected, there will also be that added element of unrest brewing in among the Reds.
The game has been built on Relic's proprietary Essence 3.0 engine, which showcases new improvements as compared to Relic's previous games. One such improvement has arrived in the form of TrueSight, a new line-of-sight technology which aims to better emulate troop visibility in real combat.
While the game will take advantage of DirectX 11, it will also support DirectX 9. It will also utilize Valve's Steamworks technology with matchmaking and achievements. And as far as in-game strategy mechanics is concerned, the game is set to retain the traditional Company of Heroes formula.
“Featuring the great competitive and co-operative multiplayer that fans have grown to expect from this high-quality and critically acclaimed game. Develop and utilize your new Commander Abilities and experience the up-close moment-to-moment brutality of frontline warfare through new Dynamic Battle Tactics,” the official page states.
Company of Heroes 2 is set for a June 25 worldwide release. Check out the developer diary below
